Ad hoc tables are additional tables that have not been included in the ONS's standard publications and are created in response to customer requests. The person or organisation requesting an ad hoc table is charged for the service and, once the tables are created, they are published for all to use under Open Government Licence.

The creation of ad hoc tables is constrained by the data, by the availability of skilled staff to compile them, by any similarity to what the ONS has already released or plans to release, and by statistical disclosure control. Census ad hoc tables can be produced from data collected in the 2001 and 2011 Censuses; most requests are for tables created from the 2011 Census.

2011 Census ad hoc tables up to January of 2016 are available on our website archive. All tables since January 2016 are published in the appropriate areas of the ONS website, for example, Housing where you can also find other additional statistical data and analyses by theme, that have not been included in the ONS's standard publications. In exceptional circumstances some ad hoc tables that contain sensitive data can be made available for use in controlled ONS environments by Approved Researchers working on projects approved by the ONS.
