The National Statistician has overall responsibility for the professional integrity and statistical quality of all outputs branded National Statistics and for ensuring that they are produced in accordance with the standards set out in the Authority's Code of Practice and its supporting protocols. The Minister in the Cabinet Office undertakes the Government's residual responsibilities in relation to the UK Statistics Authority including: the appointment of the non-executive members of the Authority, acting as a conduit for the answering of Parliamentary Questions by the Authority and the National Statistician, and laying the Authority's Annual Report before Parliament.
Under devolution arrangements, these ministerial responsibilities are shared with the relevant ministers in the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly Government, and the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland.
