Correction

Notification of Data Correction

23 November 2012

As part of the Gross Fixed Capital Formation post production quality assurance process, errors have been identified in the Gross Fixed Capital Formation series. The following publications and associated time series have now been corrected:

• Quarterly National Accounts - 2012 Quarter 1 and Quarter 2.

• United Kingdom Economic Accounts - 2012 Quarter 1 and Quarter 2.

• Business Investment - 2012 Quarter 1 and Quarter 2.

Chapter 9 and Table 8.4 of the 2012 edition of the Blue Book is currently inconsistent with these publications. Further quality assurance work is ongoing and a correction to the relevant Blue Book tables will be published as soon as possible.

For The United Kindom Economic Accounts, Q1 2012, published on 28 June 2012, the affected series and associated growth rates are in Table A8.

An error has been discovered in Table A8, A1, B4, B1 of United Kingdom Economic Accounts, Q1 2012, originally published on 28 June 2012.

Table A8

The error affects quarterly data between 1997 and 2011 for the asset and sector breakdowns of gross fixed capital formation and their associated growth rates.

The affected series are:

Tables B4 and B1

A production error has been discovered in the 1987 to 1996 seasonally adjusted quarterly data for investment income. The revisions are for time periods earlier than those shown in the UKEA tables, but the most recent years' data for the affected timeseries are shown in tables B4 and B1. Also affected are the 1987 to 1996 quarterly data for the current account balance, the current account balance as a percentage of GDP, and the income balance as a percentage of GDP. The annual data are not affected by this error.

A production error has also been discovered in the 1987 to 1996 annual data for balances in the current account as percentages of GDP. The revisions are for time periods earlier than those shown in the UKEA tables, but the most recent years' data for the affected timeseries are shown in table B1. The quarterly data are not affected by this error.

The affected series in table B1 are:

D28J, D28K, D28L, D28M, AA6H.

No other series are affected and these errors have now been corrected.

Geographical breakdown

As previously notified, the balance of payments geographical breakdowns of the current account prior to 2010q1 were not updated when this dataset was published on 28 June 2012. At that point they had not yet been revised in line with revisions to the main balance of payments dataset. This work has now been completed and the data have now been revised in this dataset. The revisions are for time periods earlier than those shown in the UKEA tables, but the most recent years' data for the revised timeseries are shown in tables B6, B6A, B6B and B6C.

An error has been discovered in the asset and sector breakdowns of Table A8 of United Kingdom Economic Accounts, Q1 2012, originally published on 28 June 2012. This error will be corrected on Tuesday 31 July 2012, following the publication of the UK National Accounts - The Blue Book 2012. This correction does not affect total Gross Fixed Capital Formation.

Additionally, in table A1, the series for gross value added at factor cost and its associated growth rates will also be corrected at this time, the data affected cover the periods from Q1 1997 to Q4 2009.

A production error has been discovered in Tables A1, A4, B6, B6A, B6B and B6C of United Kingdom Economic  Accounts, Q1 2012, originally published on 28 June 2012. 

A production error has also been discovered in the 1995 and 1996 seasonally adjusted quarterly data for current transfers. The revisions are for time periods earlier than those shown in the UKEA tables, but the most recent years' data for the affected time series are shown in tables B5 and B1. The current transfers data affected are credits, debits, balances, total credits, total debits and the total balance. Also affected are the 1995 and 1996 quarterly data for the current account balance, the current account balance as a percentage of GDP, and the current transfers balance as a percentage of GDP. The annual data are not affected by this error.

These errors have now been corrected. Full details are available on the PDF and time series dataset.
