The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in June 2012 was 36,682. This represents a decrease of 7,329 deaths in comparison with the previous month and a decrease of 3,328 deaths in comparison to the same month in 2011.
Moveable public holidays and the number of weekends, when register offices are closed, affect the number of registrations made in the published months and in the corresponding months in previous years.
The decrease in the provisional number of deaths registered in June 2012 may be the result of a lower number of days when register offices were open during the month in comparison to May 2012 and June 2011.
