You asked
I would like to request the national figures for people who died from berry aneurysms specifically, but also any kind of aneurysms over the last 6 years.
We said
Thank you for your enquiry,
Our mortality data comes from the information collected at death registration. All the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). From all of these causes an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules.
The underlying cause of death is defined by WHO as:
a) the disease or injury that initiated the train of events directly leading to death, or
b) the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury.
Number of deaths due to aneurisms are available from the NOMIS webservice.
Please see the following instructions for how to use this service:
- Visit the NOMIS website
- Select required dates (2017 to 2022)
- Select the geography (England and Wales)
- Select Cause code - to identify the cause codes of interest, please use the ICD-10 Version 2019. There is a search tool which will allow you to search for different types of aneurysm, including saccular.
If you have any queries regarding the use of the NOMIS webservice, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
