You asked

I've noticed that your 2019 death data (ref: Deaths registered in England and Wales reference tables and Death Registered in England and Wales bulletin) has all Buckinghamshire Councils as one, but it seems that the large unitary authority didn't come int existence until 1 April 2020.

Therefore, please provide data for the indvidual council in 2019, i.e.:

Aylesbury Vale District Council, Chiltern District Council, South Bucks District Council and Wycombe District Council

Thank you for your enquiry.

The 'Deaths registered series 2019' publication to which you are referring was published prior to the finalisation and publication of 2019 population data. Consequently, at the point of analysing 2019 deaths data, there were no population numbers available for the four abolished local councils of Aylesbury Vale District, Chiltern District, South Bucks District and Wycombe District. Therefore, we were required to use the new NSPL (National Statistics Postcode Lookup), which included the new unitary authority. We hope this helps to explain this anomaly.

However, this population data became available in June 2020, which has enabled us to update our figures.

Please see the mortality data requested in the accompanying download, named '0687_Mortality_Rates_AylesburyVale_Chiltern_SouthBucks_Wycombe'.

Full analysis of this data is available in the following publication, which has been updated to include recently published population data for 2019, with a commentary note: Death Registered Series 2019.
