Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the information you have requested.

We publish statistics taken from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and crimes recorded by the police.

The CSEW collects some limited information on the proportion of children aged 10 to 15 and adults aged 16 to 29 who are a member of a street gang. Information for the year ending March 2017 can be found here. We are unable to provide a CSEW breakdown of the average age of gang members in London as the sample size is insufficient for this level of detailed analysis.

Police recorded crime data will include offences which are related to gangs, however these are not separately identifiable from other crimes. Therefore, we are unable to provide you with the average age of gang member recorded by the police and the London borough where the most gang crime have been committed.

By its nature gang membership is a challenging area to collect statistics on but you may find this research report, published by the Home Office, helpful.
