Average house prices and rents by region

Rental prices and House prices by region and number of bedrooms by property type (house/flat) are not available in the specific groupings you have requested.

However, please see the accompanying download, which is a spreadsheet containing the data in a format that is as closely matched as possible.

For rental prices, I have provided average (both mean and median) rental prices by number of rooms (including room only and studio property types) and by region. These are taken from the Private Rental Market Summary statistics release, containing data relating to the period of 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 (published on 16th June 2021): Private rental market summary statistics in England - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

These are available for England only. It should be noted that the sample used to produce these statistics is not statistical and may not be consistent over time; neither do these data adjust for the impact of changes in the composition of rents each period; as such, these data should not be compared across time periods or between areas.

For housing prices, I have provided the latest average house prices by country/region and property type, as published by HM Land Registry for the month of July 2021 (published 15th September 2021):

We do not regularly publish house price statistics by number of bedrooms. However, an article was published in October 2017, which considered house price per square meter and house price per room:

While we do not have immediate plans to revisit this, it is something that we will look to update at some stage in the future, should that be of interest to you.
