Breast cancer mortality by ethnic group

You asked

I would like to make a FOI request for the following data:

• The number of all Black African and Black Caribbean women that died from Breast cancer between 2013 and 2023, categorised by age.

• The number of all Asian women that died from Breast cancer between 2013 and 2023, categorised by age.

• The mean age of all Black African and Black Caribbean women.

• The mean age of all Asian women.

• The number of all Black women between 20 and 40 years.

• The number of all Asian women between 20 and 40 years.

We hold the following analysis of Mortality from leading causes of death by ethnic group, England and Wales for 2012 to 2019. This analysis was completed by linking mortality data to Census 2011 data, as ethnicity is not recorded as part of the Death Registration process. See tables 6-11 which include leading causes for the relevant ethnic groups. For women, the leading cause does include breast cancer.

We also have historic analysis of age standardised mortality rate by ethnic group for 2012 to 2014 as part of Age standardised mortality rates for England and Wales by sex and ethnic group  publication. However, this does not include a breakdown by cause.  

We note that the main analysis quoted that already exists does not meet your exact specifications in terms of time periods (2013-2023) and average age or age group (20-40).  We may be able to create further analysis via our bespoke services. Special extracts of mortality and Census linked data are available to order from the DASCH Customer Services team. In relation to your queries about population by age and ethnicity, please find two attached datasets showing sex by age by ethnic group for England and Wales from both the 2011 and 2021 census.

The 2021 table has been created using the create a custom dataset tool and the 2011 table is from the nomis webservice.
