You asked
Please could you tell me the number of childhood leukaemia cases there have been per year from 1961 to present day?
We said
Thank you for your request.
We do not hold any data on the number of cases of childhood leukaemia. This information can be obtained from NHS England.
The number of deaths of due to leukaemia by age group for deaths registered between 1961 and 2000 can be found on the National Archives website, and for 2001 to 2022 on the ONS website. The most recent figures for 2023 can be found in this link.
Cause of death is coded to the World Health Organisation International Classification of Diseases. The attached table provides the ICD codes used for specific years. The codes for 1961 to 2000 can be found in the "description" tab of the spread sheets in the National Archives data. The ICD10 codes for 2001 to 2023 are C91-C95.
As this information is only available by 5-year ages groups, you may want to consider a bespoke tabulation to provide death due to leukaemia for persons aged 0 to 17. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. Please note these services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.
