You asked

I would like to request the annual constant price (in 2005 prices) for the construction output series with the lower sector type of work breakdown. If this could be provided from 1955 to 2018 then that would be great.

For information this table was previously published here and was discontinued around mid-2013.

Thank you for your request.

As requested, please see annual constant price estimates (in 2005 prices) for construction output at the sector type of work breakdown. This has been provided from 1955 to 2018 inclusive.

This dataset extends the previous constant prices construction output estimates by sector which ceased publication in mid-2013 when the survey improved its volume estimates by publishing chained volume measures. The change of basis for construction volume estimates are explained further in the following article:

https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20160129172007/http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/construction/output-in-the-construction-industry/seasonal-adjustment-of-monthly-output-in-the-construction-industry/index.html

The previously published data are available in the link below within table 3 with annual data in rows 8-65.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Figures may not sum at the sector level due to rounding.

  • All data are correct at time of publication of the FoI request. For example, 2018 is subject to revision in the GDP quarterly national accounts, UK: July to September 2019 due to be published 20 December 2019.

  • Due to system constraints it is not possible to publish these estimates on either a monthly or quarterly periodicity.

  • Please note there is a discontinuity in the data in 2010 where ONS took over responsibility for construction statistics. Prior to 2010 these estimates were compiled by Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) (now BEIS, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) using different methodologies. For further information please see this Development of construction statistics (PDF, 135KB), published in March 2010.
