You asked
I'm trying to find out how many COVID-19 related deaths of overseas medical and care staff there have been in the UK.
Could you please supply the data of COVID-19 related deaths (both confirmed or suspected) by occupation and nationality between 1st January 2020 and May 2020.

Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with COVID-19 related deaths, broken down by occupation and nationality. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create a bespoke analysis/table. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
Whilst, we are unable to provide all of the data requested as part of the Freedom of Information regime, we can provide the following publication: Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by ethnic group, England and Wales: 2 March 2020 to 10 April 2020.
The analyses were based on a unique linked dataset that encompasses Census 2011 records and death registrations with England and Wales coverage. It was created by first linking the 2011 Census to the Patient Register (PR) records between 2011 and 2013 where NHS number was added to those census records identified in the patient register. Self-reported ethnicity is available from the Census, and we used this to create our analysis based on ethnicity. We did not quote occupation directly in our release, but instead looked at The National Statistics Socio-economic Classification (NS-Sec), which provides an indication of socio-economic position based on occupation. It is an Office for National Statistics (ONS) standard classification. This classification again was taken from 2011 census records. We did consider how this may have changed since 2011 but found minimal impact in our investigations. The following methodology report discusses this in more detail.
Here is information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales: deaths registered up to and including 20 April 2020
The next update to this publication is still be to finalised however, the final release date can be found on our Release Calendar.
