Please could you provide the number of convictions and victims for crimes involving bladed articles, any offensive weapon or firearms in the Greater London area, for the calendar years 2016, 2017 & 2018? Please could you breakdown this information by age, gender and ethnicity?

Please could you also provide the population of the Greater London area for the calendar years 2016, 2017 & 2018 broken down by age, gender and ethnicity?

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold information regarding convictions. These data are held by the Ministry of Justice who can be contacted at: statistics.enquiries@justice.gov.uk.

We do not hold data referring to the number of victims of police recorded crime. We primarily publish the number of offences. Police recorded crime data is collated and provided to us by the Home Office who publish open data tables, which will enable you to calculate the number of offences per calendar year. The user guide provides information on how to use these. However, these tables do not distinguish offences between offensive weapons or firearms. The knife crime open data tables include offences involving a knife or sharp instrument but they do not include the age, gender or ethnicity of the victim. You may also find our weapons data tables useful but these are by financial year rather than calendar year. The Home Office may be able to help you further and can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

The mid-2017 population estimates are the latest data we have available. The estimates are provided for London by age and sex. Previous years can be found through the same link. Mid-2018 data are not yet available and are due to be published in June 2019.

With regards to population estimates by ethnicity, 2011 Census data on ethnicity can be found via the Nomis website. These figures are experimental and are not official statistics. More recent data can be obtained from our social surveys but may be chargeable. Special extracts and tabulations of Labour Force Survey (LFS) and Annual Population Survey (APS) data are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).

The available options are listed below:

UK Data Service

If you are able to do your own cross-tabulations you could purchase an anonymised Labour Force Survey (LFS) and Annual Population Survey (APS) datasets from the UK Data Service. Details on costs and how to download the data can be found on their website:
