How many people have died in hospital from covid-19 alone?
As in they died only due to covid-19. I can see the figures that you publish online, but these are deaths within 28 days of a positive covid test, so they could have died from other causes ie pre-existing medical conditions. I just want to know the exact figure from 1st February 2020 until 20 January 2021 of people that have died due to covid-19 and not anything else please?

We do not hold analysis on deaths solely from COVID-19 occurring in hospital specifically.
However, we do hold the following analysis, which may be of interest to you:

We also hold analysis showing deaths from COVID-19 where there were no other recorded pre-existing health conditions in the following dataset: Pre-existing conditions of people whose death was recorded with an underlying cause of COVID-19, deaths registered in 2020.
Please also see Figure 2 of our deaths registered weekly bulletin. The downloadable datafile beneath Figure 2 provides the number of deaths 'due to' and 'involving' COVID-19. 'Due to' refers to deaths where COVID-19 was determined to be the primary cause of death. 'Involving' refers to deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, either as the primary or contributory cause. The summed totals from January 2020 to 19 March 2021 are:
- Deaths involving COVID-19: 135,560
- Deaths due to COVID-19: 121,665
Please note, we do not publish COVID-19 deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test. These figures are published by Public Health England (PHE) on the Gov.UK website.
Our COVID-19 mortality figures are based on the causes of death written on death certificates, rather than deaths within a certain number of days of testing positive. On death certificates, COVID-19 deaths with a positive test are coded using the ICD10 code U0.71 and those with suspected COVID-19 but no test has been conducted are coded with ICD10 U0.72.
