You asked
How many people died because of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme?
We said
Thank you for your request.
We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration.
Causes of death are certified in most cases by a doctor, who records the sequence of medical conditions leading to, or contributing to, the death. This information is based on the deceased's healthcare records and other available information, such as laboratory tests or post-mortem investigation. The death registration does not contain any details on where the individual contracted COVID-19 Therefore we do not hold the requested information.
In case it is of interest, figures for the number of deaths due to and involving COVID-19 for deaths occurring in August 2020 can be found in tables 16a and 16b of our Monthly Mortality Analysis bulletin.
