Foreign Assets in Deceased Estates

• Number of IHT417 forms submitted as part of probate applications for each year from 2009-2018 inclusive.
• Total value of foreign assets reported in relation to return of estate information forms IHT205 and IHT417 for probate applications for each year from 2009-2018 inclusive.

British Owners of Foreign Property

• Number of Brits owning 2nd home abroad each year from 2000-2018 inclusive
• Number of Pensioners owning 2nd home abroad each year from 2000-2018 inclusive

British migration

• Number of Brits who moved abroad for each year from 1990 to 2018.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested for questions 1 and 2. We believe that HM Revenue & Customs may be able to assist you with question 1. With regards to question 2 we are unsure who may be able to assist you with your query, however the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government may be best placed to advise.

In relation to question 3 we publish data about international migration and from the table Long-term international migration 2.00, Citizenship, UK we have extracted the estimates of the number of Britons who moved abroad for each year between 1990 and 2017 into Table 1. For 2018 (which isn’t yet included in table 2.00) we have taken the figure from the Provisional Long-Term International Migration estimates published in May 2019.
