According to a previous HM Land registry FOI request (found on their website www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/historical_house_prices_pre_1995) "Compulsory registration was not completed throughout England and Wales until 1990. Although we [HM Land Registry] have information on all transactions since 1990, the price paid for the property was not recorded until 1995...for data prior to 1995 you could try the Valuation Office. The Valuation Office is an Executive Agency of the Inland Revenue (HMRC), with a network of local offices throughout Britain.
