We said:

You have made a freedom of information request for details on the numbers of languages that were used for the 2011 Census and the costs of providing that service.

The available information held by the Office for National Statistics has been published in the 2011 Census General Report which can be accessed from the attached link:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/census/2011census/howourcensusworks/howdidwedoin2011/2011censusgeneralreport

Section 2.230 of the report lists the 56 languages (not including English and Welsh) for which supporting and explanatory material (including translation leaflets of the census questions and instructions from the census questionnaire) was used to help respondents.

It is not possible to provide accurate estimates of the costs of language support as this formed part of our wider programme of publicity, community liaison and fulfilment services; however, sections 2.415 - 2.418 of the General Report provide a summary of financial management and costs for the 2011 Census.
