Thank you for your request.
We publish Estimates of the population for the UK, England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and the latest available are for mid-2019: April 2020. Please download this xls spreadsheet, then click on MYE2-Persons – Population estimates: Persons by single year of age and sex for local authorities in the UK, mid-2019. Please note that mid-year refers to the 30 June of any given year.
Subject to adjustments for deaths and international migration in and out of the UK, all those people estimated to be 16-years-old at 30 June 2019 will have become 17-years-old by 30 June 2020. At this age the adjustments for deaths and international migration are likely to be relatively small. The methodology for the population estimates assumes that people's birthdays are spread equally throughout the year. Because we have to make allowances for deaths and international migration, the figures for 2020 will be released in 2021.
