You asked
I would like to request statistical data on:
a. How many deaths were ruled as suicides in the Dorset County area in 2017 and 2018.
b. How many deaths ruled to be a suicide had the gender male, female or other in the Dorset county area.
c. How many suicides were associated with/had child custody, child visitation or a dispute regarding their child/children as an influence or factor in the death in 2017 and 2018? And how many of those were male, female or other in the Dorset County area.
If question c will take longer then the time constraints set out by the FOI act to complete, could you provide data on just 2018, or a 6 month period etc.

Thank you for your enquiry.
Suicide data by local authority can be found in the following link which is published as part of our annual Suicides in the UK release. Table 1 includes the number of deaths in Dorset registered between 2002 and 2018, and Table 2 provides the rate of suicide in rolling three-year aggregates to ensure reliable rates can be produced:
We are unable to identify suicides associated with child custody, child visitation or a dispute as the data we hold is based on information at death registration. This is limited to what is recorded on the death certificate by a doctor or information about the cause and circumstances of the death provided by a coroner.
If you need more detailed breakdowns, special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). If you wish to discuss your data requirements in more detail you can contact the Mortality Analysis team at mortality@ons.gov.uk.
