1. Main points
The approximate gross value added at basic prices (aGVA) generated by local activity of the UK non-financial business economy was estimated to be £1,600.8 billion in 2022; this is an increase of £229.1 billion (16.7%) compared with 2021.
All of the 12 UK regions experienced growth in aGVA in 2022 compared with 2021; London experienced the largest increase in aGVA of £82.0 billion to £404.1 billion (25.3%).
The non-financial services sector within London increased by £55.1 billion (21.8%) compared with 2021; this sector contributes 76.2% of London's total aGVA.
The highest contributions to UK local level aGVA in 2022 came from London (25.2%), the South East (14.4%), and the North West (10.3%).

3. Measuring the data
72.8% of sampled businesses were included in the final Annual Business Survey (ABS) results in 2022. Quality measures for the ABS results are available in our Non-financial business economy, UK: quality measures dataset.
Employment data
The employment data have been removed from this publication. These data can be found from our Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES), as described in our Employees in the UK bulletins, and downloaded from our Nomis web portal.
Data sources and collection
The ABS is a sample survey of approximately 73,000 businesses across the UK. The ABS draws its sample from our Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR).
