1. Main points
In 2022, approximate gross value added at basic prices (aGVA) of the UK non-financial business economy was estimated to be £1,603.1 billion, an increase of £226.2 billion (16.4%) compared with 2021.
The non-financial services sector, which accounted for over half (56.2%) of total aGVA in 2022, increased by £132.7 billion (17.3%) to £900.1 billion; administrative and support service activities saw the largest increase in aGVA of £31.5 billion (25.1%) increasing from £125.5 billion to £157.0 billion.
Total turnover and purchases of the UK non-financial business economy were estimated to be £4,940.1 billion and £3,356.6 billion respectively, an increase of £817.3 billion (19.8%) and £612.6 billion (22.3%) compared with 2021.

3. Measuring the data
In 2022, 72.8% of sampled businesses were included in the final ABS results. Quality measures for the Annual Business Survey (ABS) results are available in our Non-financial business economy, UK: quality measures dataset.
Employment data
The employment data have been removed from this publication. These data can be found from our Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) and downloaded from the Nomis web portal.
Data sources and collection
The ABS is a sample survey of approximately 73,000 businesses across the UK. The ABS draws its sample from the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR).
