This section introduces the main topics covered by results from the 2001 Census. The basic topics are formed directly from responses to individual questions on the Census forms. Others are derived during data processing from a combination of responses to more than one question. Many of the statistical outputs from the census include cross tabulations - results which relate one topic to another.
The Census 2001 Definitions volume has more information about the census population base (chapter 3) and on all detailed classifications used to describe each topic (chapter 6).
