End user licences
The supply of all Census material in electronic form is subject to end user licences which grant unrestricted use of the material but with conditions which require:
the acknowledgement of Crown copyright and source
that the user shall not attempt to derive information about identifiable individuals nor purport to have done so
that the user is aware of third party rights which apply to some material and any need for licences (this applies particularly in the case of Output Area boundaries in vector form, where there are additional licence conditions)
Re-use and publication
Under the terms of the Open Government Licence (OGL) and UK Government Licensing Framework (launched 30 September 2010), anyone wishing to use or re-use ONS material, whether commercially or privately, may do so freely without a specific application for a licence, subject to the conditions of the OGL and the Framework.
These new arrangements replace the previous Click-Use and Value Added Licences. For further information, go to the links above, phone 020 8876 3444 or email psi@nationalarchives.gsi.gov.uk
