During Census 2021, schools, local authorities and community groups used resources available on census.gov.uk to promote census activity. These resources also raised awareness of the help that was available.
The Census 2021 website is no longer live. However, you can still access these resources from it by visiting the archived version of census.gov.uk on The National Archives website.
Census videos
To support Census 2021, we produced and published videos in English and Welsh about census results, educational resources and what we do with your data. All videos have subtitles and we also produced British Sign Language (BSL) versions.
You can see playlists of the Census 2021 videos on our YouTube channel.
Census stories
The information we gather from the census helps local government plan services in your area, such as schools, hospitals and rubbish collection. Businesses use census data to decide where to set up, which creates job opportunities. Charities also use census information to help get the funding they need.
Find out how different organisations use census information by watching our census stories playlist on YouTube.
You can also read a summary about each census story on The National Archives website.
Promotional resources
We created promotional materials during Census 2021 to help local authorities and community groups understand and raise awareness of Census 2021 results.
You can view and download Census 2021 resources from The National Archives website.
Accessible formats
To allow as many people as possible to learn about Census 2021, we produced information in accessible formats.
You can view and download these resources from the archived version of the Accessible formats page on The National Archives website.
You can also view our videos with BSL on our YouTube channel.
Education resources programmes
We ran free primary and secondary education programmes for schools in England and Wales during Census 2021.
These programmes helped educate children and young people about the importance of the census and how the information it collects helps shape the society we live in.
In 2021, we also held competitions for primary schools and secondary schools across England and Wales.
You can find out more about the Census Primary Education Programme and Census Secondary Education Programme on The National Archives website.
