Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:
For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.
These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).
We have corrected an error that meant that low level trade data within this output was not updated for the period 2020Q1-2022Q4 for CP data and the period 1997Q1-2022Q4 for CVM data. This does not impact on the total trade aggregate series and has no impact on total GDP.
This was due to a manual error and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
A processing error was discovered in the historic data (1990 to 1997) within the following outputs:-
Table 1.1.6 of the United Kingdom Economic Accounts publication
Tables AA, AE, B1 and B2 and GDP(O) low level aggregates of the Quarterly National Accounts publication
The timeseries datasets associated with these publications
This error affected the industry breakdown of Output GVA for these years, however, the totals were correct.
Please note that top level estimates of GDP are unaffected by this error.
This error has now been corrected.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
ONS identified a processing error that caused Households Individual consumption expenditure (ABJQ) to be incorrect in the quarterly, current price, seasonally adjusted data for 1985 Q1 to 1986 Q4 published in table C1.
A related issue was also identified in tables E1 and E2 for Household final consumption expenditure by purpose for 1985 Q1 to 1996 Q4. The affected series were all current price, seasonally adjusted, quarterly data.
We have corrected these errors. The affected growth rates have also been corrected.
You can see all previous versions of this data on the previous versions page. We apologise for any inconvenience.
ONS identified that the index values and growth rates for the Business Services and Finance sector within the Quarterly National Accounts publication were incorrect. These have now been amended. This correction affects tables B1, R, AA and AE and section 5 of the statistical bulletin.
The error did not impact any top-level data, so there is no impact on either GDP or Index of Services.
ONS apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.
A small error occurred in the UK quarterly national accounts: October to December 2017 excel reference tables and associated time series due to a processing error. The error impacted 1997 growth rates in Table B1, and did not impact on any GDP growth rates quoted in the bulletin.
This index series has now been corrected and ONS apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.
You can see all previous versions of this data on the previous versions page.
A minor error was identified in table K1, in the Quarterly National Accounts Q1 2016 released at 9:30am on 30 June 2016. A processing error led to the publication of incorrect data for 2014 for series CAGD and CAED. These series have now been corrected, along with the associated growth rates (KH5C, KH5D, KH5E, KH5F, KH5G and KH5H) derived from these series. We apologise for any inconvenience.
An error has been identified in the time series dataset where growth series have been inadvertently published annually for a quarterly growth rate. The affected series are L64U, L64X, L652 and L655 and the annual growth series have now been removed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
