Dataset(s): Consumer price inflation tables

An error has been found in the historic CPI modelled series for Goods (D7F4) and Services (D7F5) published via table 57 of our Consumer prices inflation tables. The periods between January 1988 and December 1995 contained incorrect data which has now been amended. Data in Table 57 are not accredited official statistics. A similar correction is also required to the corresponding annual Goods (ICVH) and Services (ICVI) weight within our time-series data. The annual weight for Goods will be revised upwards by four parts per thousand between 1988 and 1990, five parts per thousand between 1991 and 1994 and seven parts per thousand in 1995. The annual weight for Services will be revised downward by the same magnitude for the same periods. These corrections will be made alongside the publication of the May 2024 price index on the 19th June 2024. The errors have no effect on the accredited official statistic series (CPI and CPIH), nor other figures published elsewhere within our Consumer prices inflation tables or within other time-series data. During the production of the latest file for the February 2024 release, a labelling error was made in sheet 8 of the excel sheet, February 2024 data was incorrectly labelled as January 2024. This has now been corrected.

This file has been replaced in order to remove an erroneous character at the end of the filename, which was preventing an automated download. This has now been corrected and the file itself is unchanged.

Whilst preparing for September’s index publication, we identified an error within Table 55 (Average retail prices of selected items) for the last three months of June, July and August, whereby the data underlying each of the column headings became misaligned during the publication process. The tables have now been amended. Time-series data (accessed via CDID identifiers) are unaffected by this error. This is the corrected August edition of the dataset.

April 2022 data has been reinstated into Table 55 of this file, after being removed in error.

A small error occurred in the division-level CPI contributions to the monthly change (between December 2018 and January 2019) published in column C of Table 26 of the Consumer price inflation tables. With the exception of the contributions presented in Table 26, the CPI headline rate or all other series are unaffected. The error occurred in updating the CPI divisional weights within the calculation of the contributions to the monthly change in the CPI (within the January 2019 publication). A small error occurred in the Consumer Price Inflation dataset, specifically Table 7 (Row 293 - 09.4.2.1 Cinemas, theatres, concerts) due to an issue with compiling the table from underlying data. We have now corrected this error. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

In February 2016 an error was discovered in the labelling of CDID's within Table 64 of the Detailed Reference Table. The following aggregate numbers have been corrected for the January 2016 release: 2.2 - L5KR replaces L52Y, 4.0 - L5PG replaces L526, Agg 43 - L5KD replaces L5KE, Agg 44 - L5KE replaces L5KD, Agg 58 - L5PF replaces L5KR.
