1. Executive summary
This article covers the expected changes to the presentation of tables of the core national accounts releases: UK Economic Accounts (UKEA) and Balance of Payments, which will be published on 29 September 2017, and UK National Accounts: Blue Book 2017 and Balance of Payments: Pink Book 2017, which will be published on 31 October 2017.
This article provides an overview of the changes to the tables and information about new, redundant and amended data series. Articles discussing the methodological changes to the national accounts have been published periodically and can be located on the National Accounts Articles page.

In September 2017, we will publish revised figures for the UK National Accounts, including gross domestic product (GDP) and balance of payments, consistent with Blue Book 2017 and Pink Book 2017.
There are a number of improvements that will be delivered during these publications. Alongside changes to improve methodology and introduce new data, there are a number of changes that will deliver increased data granularity. These changes include:
the separation of the household and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH) sectors
increased sector detail within financial services
the publication of the “Revaluation and other changes in volume account” for the first time

These changes will feed through to the following national accounts releases:
Quarterly UK Economic Accounts (UKEA)
Quarterly Sector Accounts statistical bulletin (QSA)
Annual UK National Accounts: Blue Book 2017
Quarterly Balance of Payments statistical bulletin
Annual Balance of Payments: Pink Book 2017
3. UK Economic Accounts
The structure of the July to September 2017 edition of the UK Economic Accounts (UKEA) will remain consistent with that of previous editions.
The presentation of a number of tables will change in the July to September edition of the UKEA as a result of the implementation of the changes outlined in the National Accounts: Detailed assessment of changes to sector and financial accounts 1997 to 2012, which was published on 5 June 2017.
A full matrix detailing the changes to individual tables and an updated version of the Excel dataset tables can be found in Annex 1.
Back to table of contents4. Quarterly Sector Accounts
The structure of the July to September 2017 edition of the Quarterly Sector Accounts (QSA) will remain consistent with that of previous editions.
The presentation of a number of tables will change in the July to September edition of the QSA as a result of the implementation of the changes outlined in the National Accounts: Detailed assessment of changes to sector and financial accounts 1997 to 2012, which was published on 5 June 2017. Changes will be made to the composition of tables, including the addition of new series and removal of old series. The changes have not been confirmed at this time.

The structure of the UK National Accounts: Blue Book 2017 edition will remain consistent with that of previous editions.
The presentation of a number of tables will change in the 2017 edition of Blue Book as a result of the implementation of the changes outlined in National Accounts articles: Latest developments to national accounts and balance of payments – changes to be implemented for Blue Book 2017 and Pink Book 2017. Changes will include the addition of tables and series, and the removal of series.
A full matrix detailing the changes to individual tables and an updated version of the Excel dataset tables can be found in Annex 2.

The structure of the data tables will remain consistent with that of previous editions. However, as a consequence of the improvements being deployed, some minor changes will occur across the Balance of Payments suite of tables, which include:
Balance of Payments quarterly statistical bulletin – Table H
UK Economic Accounts – Tables B5 and B5A
Balance of Payments: Pink Book 2017 – Tables 5.1 and 9.9
A matrix of the changes across the suite of tables for Balance of Payments was published on 5 June 2017 as part of the Detailed assessment of changes to balance of payments annual estimates, 1997 to 2012 article and can also be found in Annex 3.
