For this dataset, where a travel-to-work area cuts across Scottish borders, only the part within England is included.
To ensure consistency across our time series, we used a postcode matching method from 2009 to 2021, a period in which small area geographies were revised. This achieved an approximately 98% match of overall employment to our area categories. Overall totals therefore will differ slightly from other published Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) estimates.
Pay as you earn (PAYE) information for self-employed workers was only included in BRES estimates from 2015 onwards. For this reason, the period 2009 to 2014 has been chain linked in this release to ensure consistency across the full 2009 to 2021 period.
BRES microdata employment used in this output does not include information for farm agriculture (SIC subclass 01000).
