Recent publications of Office for National Statistics (ONS) travel and tourism statistics were made on a delayed schedule. This was due to the new digital collection method for the International Passenger Survey that improves our ability to interact with passengers and provides improved data quality.
The new digital collection was phased in between September 2017 and April 2018. We required additional time for the processing and quality assurance of data collected through the new mode of collection.
Following these delays ONS has now published provisional travel and tourism results for:
Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2018 (published on 5 September 2018)
January, February and March 2018 (published on 5 September 2018)
Quarter 2 (Apr to Jun) 2018 (published on 11 October 2018)
April, May and June 2018 (published on 11 October 2018)
The next publications of provisional results are scheduled as follows:
Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2018 (To be published on 17 January 2019)
July, August and September 2018 (To be published on 17 January 2019)
These releases will be aligned with the regular publication timetable for quarterly results. However, the monthly results will be published slightly later than planned under the previous timetable. This is to allow further time to process and fully quality assure the figures. We expect to return to the previous publication schedule and will publish details about future timings shortly.
