Commenting on non-UK workers figures published today by ONS, Jonathan Athow, Deputy National Statistician for Economic Statistics, said:

“Changes in the Labour Force Survey estimates of non-UK born people or non-UK nationals in work are not designed as an indicator of migration. They simply reflect how the numbers of people in work have changed, possibly because people resident here for a long time have entered or left work.

“We are confident the International Passenger Survey remains the best available way of measuring long-term migration to the UK.”

Notes

  1. ONS has today published a short article contrasting LFS-based estimates of migrant workers with IPS-based estimates of net migration.
