  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

Life expectancy (LE), Healthy life expectancy (HLE), and Disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) estimates updated for age groups ‘<1’ through to ‘45-49’ at the UK level for the 2018 to 2020 period. DFLE estimates also updated for some instances for constituent countries. All changes are minor and do not change any conclusions drawn in the data.

Healthy and disability-free life expectancy and accompanying confidence intervals for Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Swansea Bay University Health Board between 2011 to 2013 and 2017 to 2019 have been revised. These Welsh health boards had a boundary change in April 2019 which was not reflected in the previous estimates published in January 2021. This resulted in no statistically significant differences to the estimates for these administrations.

Data prior to 2017-19 data was missing for Glasgow City (S12000049) and North Lanarkshire (S12000050), these areas have been recoded due to a boundary change. Data is now available back to 2013 to 2015 for Healthy Life Expectancy, and to 2014 to 2016 for Disability-free Life Expectancy.

Some sheets in this dataset contain pivot tables. In these sheets, to select a population, place the cursor in the column you want to filter and then select from the list in the top left hand corner.

Coverage is limited to England and Wales. Estimates for Scotland and Northern Ireland will be added when Scottish 2022 census health data and 2023 population estimates for Northern Irish local government districts are available.
